Fairfax County Roof Repair cartoon If your roof is in need of repair, then there’s quite a bit you’ll really want to know about before you go too far. If you’re not afraid to learn a little and climb up onto your roof, then you can actually take care of some things. However, it’s the major roof repairs that call for a more measured response even if you’re able to do them. Roof repairs can range from low cost to replacing the entire roof, and it begins with finding out exactly what the problems are.

As you may be able to guess, nothing really can happen until you know what’s going on upstairs. The most obvious situation is when you can spot some type of problem and usually from inside your home. A leaky roof is probably the most common type of roof problem, and if that’s the issue with your roof, then avoid any delay as much as you can. Water dripping in a room when it rains is not good since obviously this can damage the flooring. You do want to be in control, and information and knowledge are the best ways to get in control. Chances are excellent that you will need to replace some shingles, and if so then you have to do a little homework. Get a test shingle, a piece from your roof, and show it to someone at your local home improvement retail store or wherever you go. Your task here is to find a way to make the newer shingles look exactly like your old, faded shingles – that is if you want to do that and it makes sense, though. Selling your home later on will be a tough one if they can see brand new shingles that are also different and don’t match.

Here is an excellent article by Roofer 911 regarding how to know when you need roof repair and what can be done: http://www.roofer911.com/roof-repair/loudoun-county-va/leesburg.htm

If you can, hopefully you are aware of somebody who can at least tell you what is needed. Offering someone who does know what they’re doing and paying them something less than you would a contractor is ideal. Getting to the bottom of what has to be fixed is the starting point for the whole project. Plus it will give you a good picture of what will be needed, and you’ll probably spend more for wood if needed plus materials. So once this is done, then you can proceed with a plan and then move forward. There is no need to rush into any roof repair because that can lead to overlooking something important. You’ll need to have a plan of action that is based on accurate information. So be sure you take this job seriously because otherwise there may be costly mistakes.
